From 1 July 2026, Vietnam Adds Two New Visa Types for Foreigners

On 10 December 2025, the National Assembly adopted the Law amending and supplementing a number of provisions of 10 laws relating to security and public order (2025).

Specifically, Clause 2, Article 2 of this Law supplements Clauses 22 and 23 after Clause 21, Article 8 of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam (as amended in 2019), introducing the following new visa types:

  • UĐ1 visa: Issued to foreign nationals who are high-quality human resources in the digital technology industry, as well as other cases eligible for preferential treatment under laws, resolutions of the National Assembly, or resolutions of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly.
  • UĐ2 visa: Issued to the spouse and children under 18 years of age of a foreign national holding a UĐ1 visa.

Both UĐ1 and UĐ2 visas have a maximum validity of up to five (5) years.

Visa Types for Foreigners Entering Vietnam from 1 July 2026

Pursuant to Article 8 of the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam (2014), as amended in 2019 and further supplemented by the 2025 Law, the visa categories applicable from 1 July 2026 include:

  • NG1 – Members of delegations invited by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee, the President, the Chairman of the National Assembly, or the Prime Minister.
  • NG2 – Members of delegations invited by senior state leaders, ministers, and equivalent officials at central and provincial levels.
  • NG3 – Members of diplomatic missions, consular offices, UN organizations, intergovernmental organizations, and their accompanying spouses, children under 18, and domestic helpers.
  • NG4 – Persons entering to work with or visit diplomatic missions, consular offices, UN organizations, or intergovernmental organizations.
  • LV1 – Persons working with central and local state agencies, ministries, and government bodies.
  • LV2 – Persons working with socio-political organizations, social organizations, and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI).
  • LS – Foreign lawyers practicing in Vietnam.
  • ĐT1 – Foreign investors with capital contribution of VND 100 billion or more, or investing in incentivized sectors or locations.
  • ĐT2 – Foreign investors with capital contribution from VND 50 billion to under VND 100 billion.
  • ĐT3 – Foreign investors with capital contribution from VND 3 billion to under VND 50 billion.
  • ĐT4 – Foreign investors with capital contribution under VND 3 billion.
  • DN1 – Foreign nationals working with enterprises or organizations legally established in Vietnam.
  • DN2 – Foreign nationals entering to offer services, establish a commercial presence, or conduct activities under international treaties to which Vietnam is a party.
  • NN1 – Heads of representative offices or projects of international organizations and foreign NGOs in Vietnam.
  • NN2 – Heads of representative offices or branches of foreign traders and organizations in Vietnam.
  • NN3 – Foreign nationals working with foreign NGOs or representative offices in Vietnam.
  • DH – Foreign nationals entering for internships or study.
  • HN – Foreign nationals entering to attend conferences or seminars.
  • PV1 – Foreign journalists and media representatives residing in Vietnam.
  • PV2 – Foreign journalists and media representatives entering Vietnam for short-term activities.
  • LĐ1 – Foreign nationals working in Vietnam who are not subject to a work permit requirement.
  • LĐ2 – Foreign nationals working in Vietnam who are required to obtain a work permit.
  • DL – Foreign nationals entering Vietnam for tourism.
  • TT – Family members of eligible foreign nationals or Vietnamese citizens.
  • VR – Foreign nationals entering to visit relatives or for other purposes.
  • SQ – Special cases as prescribed by law.
  • EV – Electronic visa (e-visa).
  • UĐ1 – High-quality digital technology workforce and other incentive-eligible cases.
  • UĐ2 – Spouse and children under 18 of UĐ1 visa holders.

Effective date: The Law takes effect from 1 July 2026, except for Point a, Clause 20, Article 7, which takes effect from 1 January 2026.
